Dr. Zampitella holds a Fellow in Thanatology (the highest honor of expertise in death, loss, and bereavement). With over 17 years experience, Dr. Zampitella's expertise in grief and bereavement has been used in several publications, international conferences, workshops, interviews on radio shows, television news interview on both NBC and FOX News, newspapers, and consultations with organizations.  As an assistant professor at National University, she teaches in-training graduate level therapists. She also strives to help therapists identify the unique nature of complicated and uncomplicated bereavement responses, assessment, and treatment of grief.  She served as the Chair of the Continuing Education Committee for the San Diego Psychological Association from 2007-2009. Dr. Zampitella is the developer and lead faculty of National University's Center for Integrative Health's Post-Graduate Certificate in Bereavement Studies program.

Dr. Zampitella's doctoral training was conducted in the first APA (American Psychological Association) accredited clinical psychology program with an Integrative emphasis in the United States at San Diego's California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.  She has taught multiple doctoral and Master's degree level courses in Integrative Psychology and bereveament. She has written several articles on the use of Integrative Psychology in therapy, conducted seminars and trainings in Integrative Psychology, and is currently pioneering an Integral Assessment and Treatment of Bereavement theory.

Dr. Zampitella's doctoral research focused on the use of nature-based therapy for grief.  She has written several articles on the healing properties of nature in therapy and often uses nature as part of counseling.
